Our Initiatives & Projects

Harborough Energy are a volunteer based group who look for local energy opportunities.  We investigate, create and support energy related initiatives and specific projects.  These help reduce carbon emissions, keep fossil fuels in the ground and improve local community involvement.  They are designed to help achieve local, national and global zero carbon targets that are increasingly impacting on all of us.

For potential community funded projects, we complete a full feasibility and assessment of each opportunity – this usually requires grant support and partnering to enable access to additional professional expertise.  If viable, we then prepare a formal request for funds, which explains the financial details including potential risks and returns.  Our ‘share offer’ is then managed by our carefully selected community funding partner via their specialist website.

The sections below provide an overview of our initiatives and links to our projects – including their status and how they are progressing.

Harborough Energy Initiatives:

As well as creating Harborough Solar One below, we have worked for a number of years with Harborourgh District Council (HDC).  Their original ‘Warm Homes’ scheme and other councils schemes across the region, have improved access by eligible residents to grant funding for free home energy efficiency measures.  *** We facilitated this via Street Home Solutions – who now deal directly with any enquiries and can arrange installations for eligible residents. ***

Note: The access, funding, and delivery of these Fuel Poverty schemes are currently under review – some councils are awaiting new funds to become available.  A summary of the ECO funding eligibility process and Leicestershire Warm Homes is available via their First Contact Plus service.

A good starting point for basic information on home efficiency measures and potential grants can be found via the UK Government endorsed independent energy advice website.

Further details around Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs) including Retrofitting and Warm / Healthy Homes can be found via the ‘Our Initiatives’ drop down menu above.

Harborough Solar One Operational Projects:

Our first community share offer funded project was installed successfully in 2016 and allowed us to create our Community Benefit Society called Harborough Solar One (governed by our Rules)

Installation details and operational progress (including annual energy output and meeting presentations) can be found via our Harborough Solar One projects page.

We continue to scope out new projects and assess their feasibility, including any required consents and licences.  We will provide details of any new share issue via our website and our social media channels (see links below).

You might want to look into them if you are a potential investor or if you are a property owner / landlord interested in reducing your energy costs and are seeking ideas.

It is very exciting times for the community energy sector. If you would like to get involved with either Harborough Energy or Harborough Solar One – please get in touch now.
